Dr. Bhupen Hazarika National Award 2026

The Assam Cabinet approved the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika National Award and selected Usha Mangeshkar as its first recipient.
The award carries ₹10 lakh and a citation and will be given once every three years for contributions to music, arts or cinema.
Bhupen Hazarika was born on 8 September 1926 in Sadiya, Assam and worked as a singer, composer, lyricist and filmmaker.
He was awarded the Bharat Ratna posthumously in 2019; 2026 marks his birth centenary.
Usha Mangeshkar is an Indian playback singer who has sung in several Indian languages.
