Surajpur district in Chhattisgarh has declared 75 village panchayats as “Child Marriage-Free” during the launch of the “Healthy Women, Empowered Families” campaign.
The status was granted after no child marriage cases were reported in these panchayats over the past two years.
Awareness campaigns involved Anganwadi workers, panchayat representatives, NGOs, and local communities.
The initiative promoted child rights, delayed marriages, and girls’ education, resulting in improved health and nutrition outcomes.
The success aligns with the state’s broader “Child Marriage-Free Chhattisgarh Campaign,” launched in March 2024 with support from UNICEF.
