The surveillance area is now defined as 2 to 10 kilometers, down from 5 to 25 kilometers.
Restrictions related to glanders now apply only up to 10 kilometers from affected sites.
Mandatory testing of equines in endemic and high-risk areas has been introduced.
Standard Operating Procedures are established for rapid containment, isolation, and humane handling of positive cases.
Glanders is caused by Burkholderia mallei and is notifiable under the Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Diseases in Animals Act, 2009.
