  • Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma inaugurated a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Eri silk weaving at Nongpoh, Ri-Bhoi district, Meghalaya.
  • The centre will help preserve and pass on the traditional skill of Eri silk weaving to future generations.
  • Eri silk, also called Ryndia, is a traditional handwoven textile of Meghalaya.
  • Eri silk is known for its handwoven colours, patterns and designs, which reflect Meghalaya’s cultural identity and heritage.
  • The Centre of Excellence will promote skill development and innovation in weaving and handloom activities.
