India highlighted its achievements in sustainable forest management and ecological restoration at COFO 28 in Rome, Italy.
Committee on Forestry (COFO) is the highest-level global intergovernmental statutory body on forestry under the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
COFO has 128 FAO members and meets every two years at FAO headquarters in Rome.

India’s forest and tree cover reached 82.74 million hectares, covering 25.17% of its geographical area.
India ranks 9th globally in total forest area and 3rd in net annual forest area gain, according to FAO Global Forest Resources Assessment (FRA) 2025.
