First Ascent Mountaineering Expedition

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh flagged off the First Ascent Mountaineering Expedition in New Delhi on 25 September 2026, after the team climbed 20 previously unclimbed peaks above 6,000 metres in Ladakh in 23 days.
The expedition was carried out by 20 climbers from the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS), based in Dirang, Arunachal Pradesh.
The team was led by Colonel Ranveer Singh Jamwal, Director of NIMAS.
The peaks were located in the Chamser-Lungser, Gyama Nala and Chokula areas of the Ladakh Range.
NIMAS functions under the Ministry of Defence and conducts mountaineering and adventure training.
