- The Chinese Scientists have created the first-ever Asian rice pangenome, encompassing genetic data from 144 wild and cultivated rice varieties.
- The rice pangenome allows the researchers to develop the new rice cultivars and introduce new traits for disease-tolerance as well as resilience against climate shocks.
- Asian cultivated rice (Oryza sativa L.) was domesticated from its wild progenitor O. rufipogon.
- Oryza - IIIa is a variant of O. rufipogon.
