- The tree is evergreen, dioecious, and can grow up to 18 meters tall.
- Its fruit is used locally to make a refreshing sherbet drink to prevent heatstroke.
- The fruit is also used in cooking and traditional medicine for diabetes and dysentery.
- Assam alone has 12 species and 3 varieties of Garcinia.
