The Ministry of Labour and Employment notified the constitution of the National Social Security Board for Unorganised Workers and Gig and Platform Workers.
The Board was constituted under the Code on Social Security, 2020, to strengthen social security for unorganised, gig and platform workers.
It is headed by the Union Minister of Labour and Employment and includes representatives from Central and State Governments, aggregators, employers, trade unions, civil society and workers’ organisations.
Gig workers earn through work arrangements outside the traditional employer–employee relationship, while platform workers provide services through online platforms connecting them with customers.
The Board recommends welfare schemes to the Central Government, advises on social security matters and monitors the implementation of welfare schemes.
It also reviews State-level record-keeping and expenditure from the relevant social security fund and account.
