- India has climbed to the 9th position globally in terms of forest area in 2025.
- The country maintains the 3rd rank in annual net forest gain according to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
- India’s forest cover is reported at 72.7 million hectares, accounting for around 2 percent of the world’s total forest area.
- Asia is the only continent to see an increase in forest area since 1990, led by India and China.
- Globally, Russia has the largest forest cover at 832.6 million hectares, followed by Brazil, Canada, the United States, and China.
