- The year 2025 marks 50 years since the establishment of Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) in India.
- RRBs were created in 1975 to provide accessible banking and credit services to India’s rural and agrarian sectors.
- It was established on the recommendations of the Narsimhan Committee on Rural Credit, during the tenure of Indira Gandhi's government.
- India currently has 43 RRBs operating under different sponsor banks, regulated by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and NABARD.
