The Union Cabinet approved a ₹2,000 crore grant under a Central Sector Scheme titled Grant in Aid to National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC).
The scheme will be implemented over four years from 2025 to 2029 with ₹500 crore allocated annually.
The NCDC will use the grant to raise ₹20,000 crore from the open market to fund loans for cooperatives.
The scheme will boost the rural income to generate employment and strengthen infrastructure in the cooperative sector.
It aims to empower marginalised communities and women by enhancing credit access and modernising cooperative operations.
India has over 8.25 lakh registered cooperatives with more than 29 crore members.
