The Union Cabinet has approved the Green Energy Corridor Phase-III (GEC-III) scheme with an outlay of ₹1.86 lakh crore to strengthen India’s intra-state power transmission network.
GEC-III aims to evacuate up to 135 Gigawatt (GW) of renewable energy by Financial Year (FY) 2032–33.
It will include 50 Gigawatt-hour (GWh) of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to manage fluctuations in solar and wind power.
State Transmission Utilities (STUs) will implement the scheme, with greenfield projects using Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB).
The scheme will strengthen the grid, reduce renewable-energy curtailment and support India’s expansion of non-fossil fuel energy capacity.
