HOPE Analogue Mission

  • ISRO launched the Himalayan Outpost for Planetary Exploration (HOPE) mission in Tso Kar Valley, Ladakh.
  • ISRO is collaborating with the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB), IIT Hyderabad, IIT Bombay, and the Institute of Aerospace Medicine Bengaluru.
  • The mission was conducted at 4530 metres where the mission simulates Mars-like conditions, including high ultraviolet radiation, low air pressure and extreme cold.
  • It tests human physiological and psychological responses for future Moon and Mars missions.
  • The Experiments include the oxygen starvation, radiation exposure and isolation endurance.
  • Previous related missions are the Ladakh Human Analogue Mission - November 2024 and the isolation study Anugami - July 2025.
