Human-faced pillar in Türkiye

  • A 12,000-year-old T-shaped pillar with a human face was unearthed at Karahantepe in southeastern Türkiye.
  • The discovery was made as part of the Tas Tepeler (Stone Mounds) archaeological project.
  • It is the first known T-shaped pillar to feature a clearly carved human face.
  • T-shaped pillars are believed to represent human figures and date back to the Neolithic period.
