  • The UAE and WHO have launched a comprehensive humanitarian initiative to combat severe malnutrition affecting women and children on Socotra Island.
  • Yemen’s Socotra Island’s Global Acute Malnutrition rate among children under five has reached 10.9 percent.
  • Also, the Severe Acute Malnutrition is affecting 1.6 percent of this population.
  • International health standards classify GAM rates between 10 and 14 percent as serious.
  • Socotra is a biodiversity-rich island known as the “Galápagos of the Indian Ocean” for its unique flora and fauna.
  • It is located approximately 340 km southeast of Yemen, in the Indian Ocean, near the Horn of Africa.
