- Tamil Nadu is the first State in India to issue identity cards to women SHG members.
- Over five lakh women's Self-Help Groups are functioning across Tamil Nadu.
- The demand for ID cards was raised by SHG members at a government function in Tiruvarur five months ago.
- Using these identity cards, SHG members can transport their products up to 100 kilometres in government buses free of cost.
- Discounts will be provided to ID card holders at Aavin, Co-optex, and Mudhalvar Marunthagam outlets.
