  • A new balsam flower species- Impatiens rajibiana is discovered in Shergaon, West Kameng district, Arunachal Pradesh.
  • It is endemic to the Shergaon region.
  • The plant belongs to the Impatiens genus, known for bright flowers and explosive seed dispersal mechanisms.
  • India has around 230 balsam species, including both native and ornamental types like Impatiens balsamina.
  • Earlier discoveries from Arunachal Pradesh include Impatiens godfreyi and Impatiens sashinborthakurii.
