India’s data centre addition capacity more than doubled in 2025, reaching 387 megawatts (MW) of information technology (IT) capacity, compared to 191 MW of IT in 2024.
MW IT capacity refers to the electrical power available to support information technology infrastructure in data centres.
Data centre absorption (demand) also grew to 427 MW IT in 2025 from 407 MW IT, marking a 5% year-on-year increase.
Mumbai and Chennai accounted for approximately 70% of total absorption in 2025.
By the end of 2025, India’s operational data centre stock reached around 1,520 MW IT.
The report projects that India’s data centre capacity will triple to over 4,000 MW IT (4 gigawatts of IT capacity) by 2030, growing at a 23% compound annual growth rate (CAGR), reflecting the country’s increasing digital infrastructure needs.
