- India’s literacy rate increased from 74% in 2011 to 80.9% in 2023–24, according to the Ministry of Education.

- Ladakh was declared the first Union Territory to achieve full literacy on June 24, 2024.
- Himachal Pradesh has become the fourth state to achieve full functional literacy, joining Tripura, Mizoram, and Goa.
