  • The European Union (EU) ban on oil products refined from Russian crude came into effect on January 21, 2026.
  • Despite sanctions and price restrictions, Russia continued to remain a major supplier in India’s energy basket, while China ranked as the largest buyer of Russian fossil fuels during the same period.
