- Russia has overtaken Ukraine as India’s largest sunflower oil supplier.
- India’s imports of sunflower oil from Russia rose twelvefold in four years, from about 175,000 tonnes in 2021 to 2.09 million tonnes in 2024.
- The share of Russian sunflower oil in India’s total imports increased from around 10% in 2021 to 56% in 2024.
- Sunflower oil is the third most consumed edible oil in India, and less than 5% of it is produced locally.
- Although overall sunflower oil imports may decline by 13% in 2025 due to price increases, Russia’s share is expected to remain around 55-60%.
