- India and Botswana formally agreed to translocate 8 cheetahs from Botswana under Project Cheetah during President Droupadi Murmu’s state visit.
- Five of the eight cheetahs were released into a quarantine facility at Mokolodi Nature Reserve as part of the symbolic handover.
- India previously imported eight cheetahs from Namibia in 2022 and twelve more from South Africa in 2023.
- 27 cheetahs currently reside in India, with 16 born on Indian soil.
