India-Uzbekistan Uranium Deal

India decided to finalise a long-term uranium supply agreement with Uzbekistan to strengthen nuclear energy security.
Uzbekistan produces nearly 6.6% of the world’s uranium, making it an important source for India’s nuclear fuel needs.
India currently operates 24 nuclear power reactors with a capacity of 8.78 gigawatt (GW) and aims to achieve 100 GW of nuclear capacity by 2047.
India already has a long-term uranium supply agreement with Kazakhstan, the world’s largest uranium producer.
Canadian company Cameco will supply nearly 22 million pounds of uranium ore concentrate to India between 2027 and 2035 for civil nuclear energy.
India and Australia also finalised arrangements for the peaceful export of Australian uranium to India under the 2015 Australia-India Nuclear Cooperation Agreement.
