India's first potash mine
- The Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL) has won India’s first potash and halite block in Rajasthan and a rare earth elements (REE) block in Uttar Pradesh.
- Coal India bagged the Graphite and Vanadium mineral block.
- Potash is a very key mineral used in the fertiliser industry, particularly in the production of NPK fertilisers.
- India currently imports 100 per cent of its potash requirement from countries including Canada, Belarus, Jordan, and South Korea.
- HZL is the world’s largest integrated zinc producer and is among the top five global producers of silver.
- It supplies to more than 40 countries and holds approximately 77 per cent of the primary zinc market in India.
