- Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) uses quantum physics to share secret encryption keys securely.
- The network was developed by QNu Labs Private Limited under the National Quantum Mission (NQM) of the Department of Science and Technology (DST).
- It sends photons (light particles) through optical fibres, encoding data as quantum bits (qubits).
- Any attempt to intercept the photons changes their state, alerting the communicating parties.
- The 500 km network uses trusted nodes, Quantum Suraksha Kavach hardware, and Quantum Random Number Generator (QRNG) technology for encryption.
