India’s Data Centre Capacity Growth in 2025

  • India’s data centre addition capacity more than doubled in 2025, reaching 387 megawatts (MW) of information technology (IT) capacity, compared to 191 MW of IT in 2024.
  • MW IT capacity refers to the electrical power available to support information technology infrastructure in data centres.
  • Data centre absorption (demand) also grew to 427 MW IT in 2025 from 407 MW IT, marking a 5% year-on-year increase.
  • Mumbai and Chennai accounted for approximately 70% of total absorption in 2025.
  • By the end of 2025, India’s operational data centre stock reached around 1,520 MW IT.
  • The report projects that India’s data centre capacity will triple to over 4,000 MW IT (4 gigawatts of IT capacity) by 2030, growing at a 23% compound annual growth rate (CAGR), reflecting the countrys increasing digital infrastructure needs.
