  • Tamil Nadu topped the country in the number of factories as per the Annual Survey of Industries 2023–2024.
  • The survey was released by the Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation on August 27, 2025.
  • A total of 1,95,89,131 persons were employed in factories across India.
  • Tamil Nadu accounted for 15.24% of the total factory employment in India.
  • Gujarat followed with 13.07%, and Maharashtra came next with 12.95%.
  • Uttar Pradesh had 8.30% and Karnataka had 6.29% of the total industrial workforce.
  • Out of 2,60,061 factories in India, Tamil Nadu had the highest share with 15.43%.
  • Gujarat stood second with 12.81% of the total factories.
  • Maharashtra had 10.20%, followed by Uttar Pradesh with 8.51% and Andhra Pradesh with 6.16%.
  • Tamil Nadu ranked third in Fixed Capital with a share of 8.09%.
  • The state also stood third in Output with 10.11% of the national share.
  • Tamil Nadu was ranked third in Gross Value Added with a contribution of 10.26%.
