India’s First Sports Genomics Programme

Gujarat launched India’s first state-level Sports Genomics Programme through the Gujarat Biotechnology Research Centre (GBRC).
It will study genetic and biological factors related to athletes’ strength, endurance, recovery and injury risk.
Gujarat plans to collect 2,000 samples annually and nearly 10,000 over five years.
The programme will create the Gujarat Athlete Genome Database (G-AGD).
It will support scientific talent identification and personalised training, nutrition and recovery plans.
