- Ethiopia has announced its plans to adopt India’s Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) model to reduce rural poverty and empower women.
- DAY-NRLM was launched in 2011 and renamed in 2016.
- It is India’s flagship programme under the Ministry of Rural Development.
- The mission promotes sustainable livelihoods, financial inclusion, and social mobilisation through Self-Help Groups (SHGs).
- It has mobilised over 10 crore rural women into about 91 lakh SHGs across India’s 28 states and 6 union territories.
- The programme focuses on credit access, skill training, and entrepreneurship to ensure economic self-reliance.
