- It has an estimated population of about 10.9 million as of 2025.
- The district covers an area of around 4,094 square kilometres with a population density of 2,469 people per square kilometre.
- It is part of the Kolkata Metropolitan Area and includes cities such as Barrackpore and Bidhan Nagar.
- Rapid urbanisation, industrial growth, and refugee settlements after the Partition of 1947 contributed to the rise in population.
- As per the 2011 census, the district recorded a literacy rate of about 84 percent.
