International Asteroid Day 2026 - June 30

  • The day marks the anniversary of the 1908 Tunguska asteroid impact in Siberia, Russia, the largest recorded asteroid impact on Earth.
  • It aims to increase public awareness about Near-Earth Objects (NEOs) and promote global efforts to detect and respond to asteroid threats.
  • The day also highlights the asteroid impact hazards.
  • The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) proclaimed the day in 2016 through Resolution.
  • The theme for the year 2026 is "Planetary Defence and Asteroid Impact Hazards."
