International Day of Sign Languages 2026 - September 23

The day highlights the importance of recognising, protecting and promoting the human rights of deaf people through national sign languages.
2026 marks the 75th anniversary of the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) and 20 years of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).
More than 70 million deaf people live worldwide, using over 300 different sign languages.
The day was first celebrated in 2018 as part of the International Week of the Deaf.
The theme for the year 2026 is “Declaring Deaf People’s Human Rights.”
