International Whale Shark Day 2026 - August 30

The day aims to raise awareness about whale shark conservation.
The Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) launched the ‘Save the Whale Shark Campaign’ along coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep.
The whale shark (Rhincodon typus) is the largest fish on Earth and is a keystone species in marine ecosystems.
In India, whale sharks occur along the entire coast, with the largest aggregation found along the Gujarat coast.
It is listed as Endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List and under Schedule I of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972.
