Israel announced its withdrawal from seven United Nations (UN) agencies and affiliated bodies in January 2026.
The agencies include UN Women, UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia, UN Alliance of Civilisations, UN Energy, and the Global Forum on Migration and Development.
The decision follows a review after the United States exited 66 international organisations.
Israel cited alleged political bias against Israel and bureaucratic inefficiency as reasons for its withdrawal.
Israel had previously cut ties with the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children in Armed Conflict in 2024.
Countries can withdraw from UN agencies without leaving the UN itself.
