- Ceuta is a Spanish enclave on the North African coast of Morocco and is a key migration route between Africa and Europe.
- The temporary checks mainly apply to third-country nationals arriving from Spain, while European Union (EU) citizens can continue regular travel.
- Italy said the measure was taken to strengthen border security and manage migration pressure.
