- Protected and Conserved Areas (PCAs) safeguard biodiversity, cultural resources, and support sustainable development.
- PCAs help remove carbon dioxide, prevent carbon release, and may enable large-scale carbon removal depending on their type.
- Protecting 30% of land could lock in 500 billion tonnes of carbon, and protecting 30% of oceans could reduce 20% of emissions needed for the Paris Agreement.
