- The central government has removed the minimum-distance rule for Jan Aushadhi Kendras in seven metropolitan cities.
- The cities are Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Ahmedabad.
- The new rule also applies to 46 cities with over one million population as per the 2011 Census.
- In such cities, the one-kilometre distance rule will apply only if an existing Kendra is less than two years old.
- Jan Aushadhi Kendras under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) offer generic medicines at affordable prices.
- There are currently more than 11,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras operating across India.
