Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2025

  • The Government introduced the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2025, in the Lok Sabha.
  • The Bill seeks to amend 355 provisions across 16 Central Acts to ease their applicability.
  • It proposes to decriminalise 288 provisions and amend 67 provisions to promote ‘Ease of Living’.
  • The Government asked the Speaker to refer the Bill to a Select Committee for review.
  • This Bill builds on the Jan Vishwas Act, 2023, which decriminalised 183 provisions in 42 Central Acts.
  • For first-time contraventions, the Bill proposes advisory or warning penalties for 76 offences under 10 Acts.
  • Imprisonment for minor defaults will be replaced by monetary penalties or warnings, with penalties increasing for repeated offences.
