September 9 , 2026 16 hrs 0 min 15 0
  • U.S. forces struck three Iranian oil tankers on 5 September 2026, including one near Kharg Island, after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched ballistic missiles at two U.S. Navy ships.
  • Kharg Island is located in the Persian Gulf, in Bushehr Province, Iran, about 30 miles northwest of the port of Bushehr.
  • It is Iran’s largest crude oil export terminal, with most of the country’s crude oil exports passing through the island.
  • Iran said its forces also targeted three tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and other U.S.-linked vessels.
  • The attacks increased concerns over oil supplies and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a major global energy route.
