Kharg Island Tanker Attack

U.S. forces struck three Iranian oil tankers on 5 September 2026, including one near Kharg Island, after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched ballistic missiles at two U.S. Navy ships.
Kharg Island is located in the Persian Gulf, in Bushehr Province, Iran, about 30 miles northwest of the port of Bushehr.
It is Iran’s largest crude oil export terminal, with most of the country’s crude oil exports passing through the island.
Iran said its forces also targeted three tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and other U.S.-linked vessels.
The attacks increased concerns over oil supplies and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a major global energy route.
