Kondagai Inland Lake Climate Study

A scientific study revealed a 4,500-year climate record from Kondagai inland lake in Sivaganga district, Tamil Nadu.
The study was conducted by the Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeo sciences (BSIP) under the Department of Science and Technology (DST).
Researchers analysed lake sediments to reconstruct past monsoon patterns, rainfall, vegetation, and flood events.
The findings identified major climatic phases like the 4.2 kilo-annum (ka) arid event and the 3.2 ka dry phase.
The study supports water management, disaster risk planning, and lake conservation in Tamil Nadu.
