  • A scientific study revealed a 4,500-year climate record from Kondagai inland lake in Sivaganga district, Tamil Nadu.
  • The study was conducted by the Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeo sciences (BSIP) under the Department of Science and Technology (DST).
  • Researchers analysed lake sediments to reconstruct past monsoon patterns, rainfall, vegetation, and flood events.
  • The findings identified major climatic phases like the 4.2 kilo-annum (ka) arid event and the 3.2 ka dry phase.
  • The study supports water management, disaster risk planning, and lake conservation in Tamil Nadu.
