- The Tamil Nadu Government has announced a three-day statewide Kuppai Thiruvizha (garbage collection drive).
- The drive will be conducted across all local bodies in Tamil Nadu from 21 to 23 January 2026.
- The initiative is part of the Cleanliness Campaign (Thooymai Iyakkam) announced in 2025.
- Earlier, from June to December 2025, four phases of garbage collection were held in government offices, collecting 2,877 tonnes of waste.
- The collected waste was recycled and generated a revenue of ₹3.79 crore.
- In the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), 200 garbage collection centres have been set up for the drive.
