L.69 Group and UNSC Reform

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar co-chaired the L.69 Consultative Ministerial Interaction on United Nations Security Council (UNSC) reform with Saint Lucia’s Foreign Minister Alva Baptiste in New York.
The L.69 Group is a cross-regional coalition of over 30 developing countries from Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean and the Pacific, including Small Island Developing States.
It works for comprehensive and urgent reform of the UNSC to make the Council more representative and effective.
The C-10 (Committee of Ten) is an African Union group of 10 countries that promotes the Common African Position on UNSC reform.
India said that the UNSC’s inability to address ongoing conflicts and threats to international peace and security highlights the need for reform.
India, L.69 and C-10 continue to coordinate their efforts on UNSC reform; India also works with the G4 (India, Brazil, Germany and Japan) on the issue.
