- The Delhi government announced the Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana to support girls’ education and reduce school dropouts due to financial stress.
- The scheme will begin on 1 April 2026 and provides financial assistance totalling ₹56,000 during a girl’s schooling and higher education, which is expected to grow to around ₹1 lakh with interest.
- Money will be credited to an Aadhaar‑enabled bank account in the girl’s name to ensure direct benefit transfer and better tracking.
- The final amount will be paid when the girl turns 21 years old or completes graduation or diploma, whichever is earlier.
- Payments are linked to schooling milestones, including at birth, Class 1, Class 6, Class 9, Class 10 and Class 12, with additional funds after graduation or diploma.
- The scheme is for girls born in Delhi whose families have lived in the city for at least three years and have an annual income of ₹1 lakh or less; benefits are limited to two daughters per family.
