  • The Delhi government announced the Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana to support girls’ education and reduce school dropouts due to financial stress.
  • The scheme will begin on 1 April 2026 and provides financial assistance totalling 56,000 during a girls schooling and higher education, which is expected to grow to around 1 lakh with interest.
  • Money will be credited to an Aadhaarenabled bank account in the girl’s name to ensure direct benefit transfer and better tracking.
  • The final amount will be paid when the girl turns 21 years old or completes graduation or diploma, whichever is earlier.
  • Payments are linked to schooling milestones, including at birth, Class1, Class6, Class9, Class10 and Class12, with additional funds after graduation or diploma.
  • The scheme is for girls born in Delhi whose families have lived in the city for at least three years and have an annual income of 1 lakh or less; benefits are limited to two daughters per family.
