The Delhi government announced the Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana to support girls’ education and reduce school dropouts due to financial stress.
The scheme will begin on 1 April 2026 and provides financial assistance totalling ₹56,000 during a girl’s schooling and higher education, which is expected to grow to around ₹1 lakh with interest.
Money will be credited to an Aadhaar‑enabled bank account in the girl’s name to ensure direct benefit transfer and better tracking.
The final amount will be paid when the girl turns 21 years old or completes graduation or diploma, whichever is earlier.
Payments are linked to schooling milestones, including at birth, Class1, Class6, Class9, Class10 and Class12, with additional funds after graduation or diploma.
The scheme is for girls born in Delhi whose families have lived in the city for at least three years and have an annual income of ₹1 lakh or less; benefits are limited to two daughters per family.
