- The Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, notified the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Amendment Rules, 2025 on 29 October 2025.
- The amendment aligns the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011, with the Medical Devices Rules, 2017, for packages containing medical devices.
- The provisions specify that for medical device packages, the font height and width of numerals and letters shall follow the Medical Devices Rules, 2017.
- Declarations on medical device packages may be made as per the Medical Devices Rules instead of the Principal Display Panel requirements under Legal Metrology.
- The amendment ensures a single, clear, and consistent labelling standard for medical devices to strengthen consumer protection and reduce regulatory confusion.
