The Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, notified the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Amendment Rules, 2025 on 29 October 2025.
The amendment aligns the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011, with the Medical Devices Rules, 2017, for packages containing medical devices.
The provisions specify that for medical device packages, the font height and width of numerals and letters shall follow the Medical Devices Rules, 2017.
Declarations on medical device packages may be made as per the Medical Devices Rules instead of the Principal Display Panel requirements under Legal Metrology.
The amendment ensures a single, clear, and consistent labelling standard for medical devices to strengthen consumer protection and reduce regulatory confusion.
