Lungphun Ropui menhirs – Mizoram

  • Lungphun Ropui in Lianpui village, Champhai district, has been officially declared a Monument of the National Importance by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
  • The formal notification was issued by the Ministry of Culture.
  • These antiquarian artefacts also include around 114 intricately carved memorial stones, anthropic holes, petroglyphs, Y-shaped wooden posts and a very ancient pathways.
  • It was only the second megalithic site in Mizoram to receive this designation.
  • The first was Kawtchhuah Ropui or Great Entranceway in Vangchhia village.
  • It hosts over 170 engraved menhirs.
