Madras HC on Mekedatu Resolution

The Madras High Court dismissed a plea challenging the amended Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly resolution on the proposed Mekedatu dam across the Cauvery River.
The court held that legislators who were present during the amendment and did not object at the time cannot later challenge it based on their own silence.
The amended resolution included a request to the Centre to constitute a tribunal to resolve the Tamil Nadu–Karnataka Mekedatu dispute.
The court noted that the amended resolution was put to vote and passed unanimously, with no objection raised by the petitioner during the proceedings.
Article 212 of the Constitution limits judicial examination of legislative proceedings on grounds of procedural irregularity.
Rule 286 of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Rules gives the Speaker power to decide questions of procedure arising in the House.
