Madurai Museum Renovation

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister inaugurated the renovated Gandhi Memorial Museum in Madurai.
The renovation was completed at a total cost of ₹10.25 crore by the Heritage Wing of the Public Works Department (PWD).
The building was originally Rani Mangammal’s summer palace and later served as the Collector’s Bungalow and Judges’ Residence during British rule.
In 1955, the Tamil Nadu government gifted the palace to the All India Gandhi Smarak Nidhi.
The palace was converted into a museum dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi and inaugurated in 1959.
The museum houses 14 belongings of Mahatma Gandhi, including his blood-stained cloth.
