- Maize farmers in Tiruvallur district have harvested their crop over 50 acres on a trial basis this year.
- Fifty farmers from four blocks of RK Pet, Tiruttani, Thiruvalangadu and Gummidi poondi took part in the experiment to grow a new crop in the region.
- MH 6 variety of seeds had been provided from the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University to the farmers.
- The farmers are selling their produce to a private company near Uthukottai that manufactures ethanol.
- Since the Government of India has also announced a minimum support price for maize, the farmers will get a good price.
