- DRDO’s Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL) in Visakhapatnam has developed new Man-portable Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (MP-AUVs) for mine countermeasure missions.
- The vehicles use Side Scan Sonar and underwater cameras to detect and classify mine-like objects in real time.
- Deep-learning systems allow the AUVs to identify targets autonomously and reduce operator effort.
- Underwater acoustic communication lets multiple AUVs share data during operations.
